Take Your Dog Shopping: Our Top 10 Picks for Pet-Friendly Stores

I avoid shopping at all costs.

That is, unless it’s a pet-friendly store.

Then I’m like a kid in a candy shop.

Shopping with your dog can be an excellent training opportunity.

However, it's often challenging to find pet-friendly stores.

This is why I’m excited to share my top 10 favorite pet-friendly stores based on personal experience, hours of research, and feedback from thousands of my followers.

Plus, there is a FREE guide to reference any time you need it.

If you find this blog helpful, you'll definitely want to explore our app for even information on what to know before getting a puppy, four-weeks of training material to build a solid foundation plus helpful resources.

We offer all of this information for FREE in order to help other pet parents on their training journey.

Before we jump in, there are a list of 5 things to consider:

  1. Not all stores have the same policy. Therefore, I highly recommend you call the location before visiting.

  2. If your dog is easily distracted or is showing signs of stress, fear, or anxiety, it may be best to go home and try some other fun activity together instead.

  3. Your dog should always be on a leash while in a store.

  4. Pack water and treats.

  5. It’s helpful to have a record of your dog's vaccinations on your phone.

Now let’s get to the list of top 10 pet friendly stores!

1.    Lowes

The aisles are wide, the floors are concrete, the staff is friendly, and there is plenty of space for getting those steps in when the weather is poor. In addition, I enjoy visiting for socialization and training.

2.    TJ Maxx

If you’re looking for some deals, then check out TJ Maxx. This is a great place to visit for various clothing, home décor, and pet products. Who knows, you may even find some matching Hawaiian shirts on the clearance rack.

Note: Marshalls and Home Goods have the same owners and are pet-friendly.

3. Barnes & Noble

It doesn’t get much better than your pup in one hand and a book in the other. Keep in mind that the café often has a different pet policy. Don’t forget to call ahead of time to confirm the rules.

4. Lululemon

Lululemon is always a fun place for some retail therapy, a few treats, and friendly staff. I always find it entertaining when I see Ellie’s name on the dressing room door with a paw print.

5.  Bass Pro Shop

If you’re looking for some new smells and experiences, Bass Pro Shop is the place to visit. These stores are large with plenty of places to explore.

6.     Breweries

Breweries are a blast, especially if they are dog-friendly. My favorite locations have treats, music, and even “dog brew” available. I recommend searching “dog-friendly breweries in your city” to find a location near you.

7.     Baseball Stadiums

The MLB hosts Pups in the Park events at select stadiums. This is a fantastic way to provide your dog with positive socialization while enjoying a ball game. Unfortunately, the tickets often sell out for the dog-friendly section, so you’ll want to buy them early.

8.     Petco/ PetSmart

Like most pet stores, Petco and PetSmart welcome dogs with open arms. After all, it’s a store designed to be a one-stop shop for all your pet needs. Keep in mind that there will likely be more dogs here than at some of the other pet-friendly stores on this list.

 9.     The Container Store

You can never have enough baskets. At least that’s what my wife tells me. The Container Store is a fun store to visit with your dog if you’re in the mood for some organization.

10.   Dick’s Sporting Goods

Whether you’re looking to test out a new putter or shopping for athletic gear, Dick’s Sporting Goods is the place to be.

 Conclusion

Just remember that all stores have individual policies, so it’s best to call before visiting.
